OneOK FreedomFest 2011 Fireworks Show – Tulsa, OK

OneOK FreedomFest 2011 Fireworks Show OneOK put on a great fireworks show this year. The only problem was what appears to have been a lack of grand fanale at the end. There were about 24 minutes of fireworks out of a scheduled 30 minutes. It appears there was a build up, then everything fizzled. A few minutes later, one last firework was launched, but it was the last. People waited around for another 10 minutes … Continue reading

This year the name has been changed to Sooner Boomerfest 2011. I decided to take a short trip to get some video of the celebration. The fireworks display lasted for around half an hour and culminated with a 2 minute finale to rival any big name firework show. The fireworks were launched from the … Continue reading

Making the Exciting Move into Video Production

Making the Exciting Move into Video Production For the past 12 years I’ve been working extensively on my photography, as time moves on it can become more of a chore than a joy unless something changes. For instance you might switch from events to weddings, from weddings to sports, or from sports to portraits. Sometimes a new technique such as high dynamic range photography comes along to re-ignite that spark. That time has come again … Continue reading

Facebook’s “Use Facebook as Page” feature is here!

Use Facebook as Page Most of the time when Facebook adds a new feature it’s frustrating to say the least. The “new messaging” interface to Facebook is simply horrible in my opinion. Who wants to send email’s with no subject line, mix them with their chat messages and archive everything by default? Enough on that subject. Facebook just introduced a new feature called “Use Facebook as Page” and its great! The feature works by allowing you to … Continue reading

What you might not have heard is that this could be the biggest snow storm in Tulsa’s history! I’ve been keeping my eye on it and according to the National Weather Service is currently predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow with some areas receiving 10 to 15 inches of snow! I don’t … Continue reading

New Photo Galleries from 2010 are Posted!

New 2010 Galleries are Available I just finished creating the 3rd 2010 photo gallery for emmettlollis.com. So far I’ve added galleries for the Best Portraits of 2010, Storm Chasing Photos and a Winter Weather of 2010 gallery. I put a lot of work into each of the galleries, from taking the photos, editing, going through stacks of my 2010 images to spending an hours designing and creating the actual galleries on the site. Be sure … Continue reading

A Little PHP Can Cause Big Problems

The Issue A few days ago I was downloading my raw log files so I could run my web analysis software. I noticed that the raw log file seemed to be extremely large for the amount of traffic my site typically receives. I didn’t think a whole lot about it because I’ve recently installed WordPress for this blog and I know that WordPress generates a lot more log file entries. I had a lot going on with … Continue reading

My HTML to PHP Conversion Experience

Hasty Decisions I’ve been running TulsaRockNRoll.com since 2001. In the beginning I was running apache on my home computer over a DSL connection which worked pretty good. I decided to make use of server side includes (SSI) to make the management of my site easier. I didn’t want to go through the mess of renaming my entire site from HTML to SHTML file extensions so I decided to just tell apache to treat HTML files … Continue reading

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher Last night I had the exciting opportunity to see a screening of “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher” at TU’s Alan Chapman Activity Center. For those of you who don’t know, Duncan Christopher was filmed entirely in Tulsa Oklahoma and surrounding areas. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher is doing something fairly unique in it’s marketing technique. They have taken the movie on … Continue reading

Fun with Breadcrumbs, My Experience

Fun with Breadcurmbs I decided to add breadcrumbs to my new blog to help with site navigation. I found a great plugin called Yoast WordPress SEO which has built in breadcrumb support.  The plugin has a lot more than just breadcrumb support. If you have any concern about how well your blog displays in Google I would advise adding the plugin. I won’t go into detail about the other features since I’m focusing on breadcrumb support … Continue reading

Welcome to Emmett’s Blog! What is this blog about anyway?

Welcome to Emmett’s Blog After a great deal of work, I’ve finally got my blog designed to a point where I can present it to the public. There was quite a bit of work involved with the theme design.
